South Kerry 2-07 Newmarket 3-13.
The South Kerry U 16 hurlers made a spirited defence of their Duhallow League title last Friday night in Newmarket against the local opposition. Fielding a young team and with a few absentees, they were under pressure from the start. Their defence held strong with many heroes including Michael Godfrey, Shane Hanafin, Conor Mc Sharry and John Ivory. There was a number of good points scored , however the goals were limited with a good defence and goalkeeping by Timmy Foley which resulted in a half time score  of  2-08 to 1-03.

Our goal from Johnny Courtney and points from Aodhan Burns, Dean Cassidy and Conor Shortall gave them a purple patch just before the half time whistle. In the second half they  stood up and were counted and fought bravely and a few positional switches worked well. Keith Flynn scored a fine brace of points and Michael Godfrey added a goal. In the end they should be satisfied with a decent looking score line of  3-13 to 2-07  and they know that there will be better displays later in the season.

South Kerry:- T Foley, C McSharry, M Godfrey (1-0), S O’Sullivan, G Donovan, J Ivory, S Hanafin, C Shortall (0-02), K Flynn(0-02), K O’Donoghue, A Burns(0-02), D Price, D Cassidy,(0-01) J Courtney,(1-0) J Billot.

Tralee Hurling Initiative.
The Na Gaeil / Churchill U8/10’s had a friendly game against Crotta at the Tralee IT GAA pitch on Tuesday last and both sides gave an exhibition of hurling skills. The development of the game in Tralee by Na Gaeil and Churchill is reaping rewards as they are having fun games with their North Kerry counterparts. Maurice Lawlor and Peter Lenihan could do with a few more parents / mentors to lend a hand in both clubs to push this great initiative to the next level.

Kerry U16 Hurling Squad.

The Kerry U16 Hurling team will be playing in the Munster U16 Divisional Championship next Saturday and all 1st round games are going ahead in Clarecastle and they will meet Mid Clare at 11am, then at 12.30 they will meet City &West Limerick and their last game will be at 2pm where they meet North Tipperary. If they succeed they will contest the semi final on Monday May 3rd in Mallow at 11am. Both the Plate Final and the A Final will then go ahead at 12.30 also in Mallow.
